George Payton

(Bottom Center)

Founder & Owner

George Payton is the patriarch of the family and of Payton Machine & Supply. George grew up ranching with his family and thirteen siblings in Roy, New Mexico. George earned a degree in Mathematics while he worked as a teacher specializing in math and blacksmithing. He first began his mechanic and machinist career building fishing tools in a blacksmith’s shop and then joined Acme Tool Co. where he was sent to set-up eighteen machine shops for the oilfield. From Casper, Wyoming, Acme Tool Co. brought him and his wife, Lois, to Borger, Texas where he eventually ventured on his own with Payton Machine Shop in 1972. George has over 65 years of experience in field and shop mechanics, downhole-drilling, pumping units, dam building, water-well drilling, industrial plants, and precision machining for new fabrication and rebuilt equipment and parts.  He enjoys a challenge taking on jobs that others couldn’t complete or jobs that had never been done. George values the customer knowing their job will be completed with the highest quality work. He offers dependability to his customers that is unmatched. After a long life and career of pushing himself to the extreme, he has passed the reins of Payton Machine & Supply to the new generation, including his son and grandchildren. He has immense pride in the way he has spent his life, and the way his son and grandchildren continue his legacy. He also enjoys spending more time at home with Lois and their two dogs, Sister and Yoda.

Gerald Payton

President

Gerald Payton grew up in Borger working in the machine shop with his father. He attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas and graduated in 1985 with a degree in Geophysics and a minor in Geology. He came home and became a partner in the family business. During challenging times in the oilfield, he traveled throughout the region and brought back work that helped to diversify and transition the shop into the industrial plant setting. Gerald has over 40 years of experience in drilling service repair, pump-jack repair, and industrial plant services. He has consulted companies and offered expert advice on several occasions. He values the ability to take on jobs that others could not complete. He has his CDL and enjoys driving and hauling. He and his wife, Stephanie, have three children who have all come back to work with him in the family business. He enjoys being with his family, managing his land, and going on evening rides with his dog, Bear.

Payton Lumpkin

Secretary

Payton Lumpkin is grandson to George Payton on his mother’s side, getting his name from his mother’s maiden name.  Payton grew up in Borger, working and learning the trade at Payton Machine & Supply from the ground up.  Payton went to the Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas where he attained a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering.  After graduation, he returned to Borger with his new bride, Ansley, to join the family business.  Soon after his return, Payton kept the oilfield work alive for Payton Machine, travelling throughout the Texas Panhandle and neighboring regions, learning the mechanical ins and outs of inland drilling rigs.  Since the decline of oilfield operations, Payton has been determined to expand our customer base and working capabilities within the industrial plants in the area.  Payton has over 15 years of experience in field and shop mechanics for industrial plant services and drilling services and is currently the main customer contact at Payton Machine & Supply.  Payton has a Level II Balancing Technician certification for Fundamentals of Balancing as well as Balancing Theory and Application.  Payton lives by a “work hard, play hard” motto with hobbies including fitness and working out, riding snowmobiles and ATVs, enjoying the lake, traveling with his family, and most of all – watching his kids, Riley and Parker play sports.

Marissa O’Neill

Director

Marissa O’Neill became a partner in the family business in 2014. She attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida with a degree in Air Traffic Management. While waiting for the government to hire, she went to work for her father, Gerald. Ten years later, she has brought CNC machinery into the machine shop and continues to update our equipment. Marissa’s dedicated drive and hard work was instilled in her by her father, Gerald, and grandfather, George, through their constant guidance and critiquing for quality and precision work. Marissa had the opportunity to learn from the top machinists in the trade and was allowed to grow through their knowledge, skills, tricks, and trade-secrets. She is thankful to have the best mentors to help her bridge a 40+ year age gap in our shop’s machining capabilities. Besides working, Marissa spends the rest of her time with her growing family because she believes life is too short and busy to miss out on the little things that are most precious.

Gerrad Payton
